The theme for this issue is change.
Change as a theme allows for creation from political and engaged to abstract and reflective. The theme is meant to be very broad and can be interpreted metaphorically or literally. It’s also not required to stick to the theme in your submission.
“From big to small, personal to global, change exists in a myriad of different ways. At Ripple, we’re experiencing changes both personally and as a magazine. Many editors are currently or about to start University, taking on new roles, and growing as people, and we’re considering what working as a Ripple editor looks like in our new lives. As a magazine, Ripple is also growing. Our editorial staff has doubled, and we’re starting new initiatives like Ripple Lit Writing Classes. The tiny magazine we first started is growing into a community, and I wanted Issue 3 to reflect this growth.
From increasing temperatures to shrinking natural spaces, a less positive change can be seen in the natural environment. In this issue we will see authors’ perspectives on what ecological changes look like for them. However, we’re also interested in hearing your thoughts on the changes communities, societies, and the world must make to minimize environmental destruction.
Whether your changes are personal or global, introspective or literal, we’re excited to see your writing and art in Issue 3 of Ripple.”
-Nina Ballerstedt, Ripple Lit editor from the US
