Ripple Lit

Poetry Classes

To encourage the development of writers ages 13 - 21, Ripple Lit offers free writing classes over the summer. These classes focus on poetry, but if you prefer a different genre we encourage you to apply anyway for a fun writing environment, experience with giving and receiving feedback on writing, and maybe even to discover a new love of poetry! Applications are currently open! To receive updates on classes, sign up for our mailing list.

The classes occur for two hours, from 10 AM EST to 12 PM EST, every Saturday from July 1st to August 5th. If you won't be able to make these times, we encourage you to sign up anyway to receive emails with poems and prose, writing prompts, and advice used during the classes.

The classes meet over Zoom once a week. There is also a peer-editing portion of the classes in which writers receive live feedback on their work from instructors and other students. There are assignments for writing pieces outside class every week, with students receiving feedback every other week. The classes also include analysis of poems and prose and discussion of different techniques used in writing.

Classes are led by Ripple Lit Co-Editors-in-Chief Nina Ballerstedt and Callista Pitman.

Our goal is to create an environment and community that encourages young writers and challenges them to improve their writing.
